Australia Issues Evacuation Alerts Amid Heatwave

(MENAFN) Australian officials on Wednesday released evacuation advisories as southern parts of the country faced extreme heat and spreading bushfires, according to local media reports.

Authorities in Victoria issued an evacuation order for a blaze in the northern region of the state, while firefighters in South Australia prepared for difficult conditions, a news agency reported.

Several areas are forecast to endure consecutive days with temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).

In Western Australia, a state-level emergency bushfire alert was declared for High Wycombe and Maida Vale, located roughly 27 kilometers (16.7 miles) from Perth.

The state emergency department urged residents along Brand Road, Sultana Road, and Roe Highway in parts of High Wycombe to seek shelter in secure locations, warning that the fire had disrupted evacuation routes.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” the Fire and Emergency department stated in its warning.

Last month, approximately 16 houses were destroyed and others remained at risk when bushfires swept through the Mid North and Central Coast regions of New South Wales in eastern Australia.
